Samurai turtles?

Um, after I saw Levi's turtle, I felt that I had to post this. It's already up on my blog, and it's got a wierd Grateful Dead vibe, but it's an idea. Simini hates the turtle thing, by the way. Which makes it even MORE awesome.

sigh... I'll just point out once agian that since were taking this in a more dramatic direction it really doesn't seem appropriate to have a giant turtle erupt from the river.

Also, if we're going to use animals and other motifs, I think it's really important that we look in their history, since we're making a film based on a culture steeped in symbolism.

and I can't think of a way to make a turtle handle an ax that wouldn't look awkward or static- they arren't the most dynamic animals.

and it's chunky... and doesn't fit the fluidity of water... what you've drawn are land tortoise anyway...

and I have several other reasons that came to me after the initial discussion which I'm sure will come to me again...

and I realize you put this up to bate me... but... please?

though it is a very cool drawing. I'll give you that.

I like the turtle idea. His head could rush out of the water like a great dragon and scare the poor little boy. You wouldn’t have to realize it’s a turtle till later. And then maybe he could keep the axes in his mouth and let them down one at a time from his mouth or something.

And just to give Simini a hard time. I don’t think we need to state what time period or exactly which Asian country our story is coming from. This will give us more freedom to tell our story. It could happen hundreds of years in the future after WWIII and everything was reduced to a pulp so everyone lives like old times. So maybe leave the culture a little ambiguous.

Or, we could have four turtles and we could assign them all seperate but ambiguously similar colors like orange and red and purple and blue...the boy can wait until they present the golden axe and then chop them all up into turtle stew. On his way home the boy is intercepted by a giant rat eating cheese, he gives the rat a black eye and takes his cheese and then he makes the master work for him from then on, flogging him with the blunt edge of the axe whenever he makes a mistake

Then it's settled. We're going with Levi's idea. End of discussion.
